The Historic Center of Barranquilla is built on the land where they settled the first indigenous groups such as the Kamash.It is located close to the Rivera of the Magdalena river, is its western part, the encircling the 30 and 46 streets and the 35 and 46 avenue.
In the center,
i.e. the shaft of the Historic Center, is located the Paseo de Bolivar avenue,
which is the most important traffic artery of the city, and also the Plaza
Bolivar. Since this site was started to build the city, to be populated and it
was the place where were all the political activities, Commercial and cultural. Today is the economic and
commercial center of Barranquilla.
In 1999 the Ministry of Culture declared as Cultural Interest of a national character by it's great architectural value due
to the amount of buildings of Spanish baroque style, neocolonial, Art deco and modern movement that are hosted in the
place.
Only a few
minutes from the city center this place of special beauty, because it empties
into the Caribbean Sea and the Magdalena river, is also of great importance because
it is the entrance to the port of Barranquilla. You can take walks and
excursions by boat through the river to enjoy the Landscape and also of
attractions such as restaurants, amusement park and a museum of natural
history.
Puerto colombia´s dock.
The construction of the dock of the village Puerto Colombia,one of the longest of all time was in charge of the engineer Francisco Javier Cisneros and was built in the year 1893. It was the gateway for the entry of immigrants in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries Despite it's splendour was never rebuilt, then in 2009 and due to strong winds, and they fell down the final meters of its construction, for which he had to be evacuated and definitively closed. It has been declared a National Monument since 1998, despite his pitiful state.
The Alberto Pumarejo bridge, which connects to Barranquilla with Salamanca Island, going through the Magdalena river a few kilometers from the estuary , to the height of the city of Barranquilla. Its official name is "Laureano Gomez", but is more known under the name of his main driver

Barranquilla´s zoo is surrounded by dense forests, habitat where there are several species of flora and fauna, colorful indigenous animals and others who are threatened or in danger of extinction and for which the emphasis is on its protection. You can see more than 500 animals of 140 species, gallinaceos, pachyderms, lions, fish, birds, manatees, reptiles, primates, etc. It also has a recreational park and a farm where it is possible to have contact with the animals, especially for children.
